The Eleven Best Things About Being A Giants Fan! #7 – Marty Lurie
In a new feature to commemorate the 2012 season, we will be counting down the eleven best things about being a Giants fan!
#7 . Marty Lurie
In early 2010 KNBR signed Marty Lurie after he was unjustly released from his gig hosting the Oakland Athletics radio pre-game show. Many experts believe that Lurie as a pure baseball commodity is the most valuable asset that the Giants have gotten from the Athletics; barely beating out the South Bay territorial rights and Ray Durham.
Lurie’s love for the game is undeniable. He loves the game for what it is, and not what others are trying to do to it. Lurie is a straight shooter who isn’t afraid to criticize the team if need be, some of his rants are the stuff of internet legend and surely got him a talking to from Lee Hammer about laying off KNBR’s cash cow. His personal library of baseball knowledge makes for a pleasant listen for any type of fan.
One of the wonders of Marty Lurie is his endurance on the radio. Lurie is known as a marathon type performer. He has been known to do his post-game show into the wee hours of the morning. I’ve heard rumors that Lurie’s show never really ends during the season. During baseball season he just keeps talking 24/7 and the KNBR producers pick and choose when to turn his mic on and off. This is why Marty Lurie is a treasure and is the seventh best thing about being a Giants fan!.
