The Eleven Best Things About Being A Giants Fan! #11 – Brett Pill

March 1, 2012

In a new feature to commemorate the 2012 season, we will be counting down the eleven best things about being a Giants fan!

#11 . Brett Pill aka “Pill the Thrill”

Few times in sports do we see an athlete break barriers and get the whole world talking. In the NFL last season it was Tim Tebow.  Jeremy Lin has done the same recently in the NBA.  On September 6th, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of Fresno; Brett Pill emerged to the world and hit a monster homerun in his first major league at bat in San Diego.  He shocked the system and had Henry Wofford talking about his play for days. His impressive .881 OPS helped lead the 2011 San Francisco Giants to a smooth 2nd place finish in the rough and tumble NL WEST. Pill’s play captured the hearts and minds of Giants fans all over the Bay Area. From Yahoo! Contributors to fresh faced Gary Radnich show regulars, Pill made quite the impression with the media as well.

Being able to watch Brett Pill day in and day out in 2012 will be a special treat for Giants fans. Although many are counting on Aubrey Huff to be a 6 WAR player like he was in 2010,  we will see Pill in the lineup almost everyday. Pill can play 1B, 2B, 3B, all three OF positions and I even heard this morning on KNBR that he might be seeing some time at  Catcher as well.  His versatility and major league success really gives him the upper hand in his spring training battle with Brandon Belt. Brandon Belt as you may recall is the lanky timid 1B prospect who although is beloved by the basement dwelling crowd, has zero success in the big leagues and could be looking at a season in Fresno. Brett Pill is young, but his future is bright and his RBI bat could be the reason we see another parade down Market street come November.

Nice piece on Pill, but that’s not how 2011 ended!

Are you sure, that’s pretty much how I remember it.
